Toward the Realization of a Sustainable Society

The international community has set forth the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and is promoting initiatives in various fields. Among them, gender equality and women's health are positioned as important themes. Women's health is essential for the sustainable development of society as a whole. In particular, early detection and appropriate care for women's specific health problems are important to improve their quality of life and the welfare of society as a whole.
Against this backdrop, new technologies for improving women's health and quality of life are attracting attention. One such technology is FEMTECH.

FEMTECH

“FEMTECH" is a term coined by combining the words "Female" and "Technology" to denote a new field that focuses on innovative technologies to support women's health and lives. The term was coined because traditional medical and health technologies have been driven by a male-centric perspective, and there is a need for products and services that address the unique needs of women. FemTech is now being looked to as opening up new possibilities to meet women's needs by providing technology that can enhance their health and lives.

Cervical cancer screening

In Japan, approximately 10,000 people are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, and approximately 3,000 people die from the disease. This is higher than in other medically advanced countries, and the reasons for this are the low cervical cancer screening uptake rate and the low HPV vaccination rate. In order to improve this situation, the resumption of active HPV vaccine recommendation, catch-up vaccination, and introduction of the 9-valent vaccine have been implemented, and as for cervical cancer screening, it was decided to introduce the HPV test alone method in April 2024 as a specific screening method.
CellSoft® is a medical device that enables easy specimen collection at home, even for those who have difficulty finding time to go for a checkup due to their work schedule, those who have difficulty accessing medical institutions from their place of residence, or those who feel uneasy about the test. Comparative tests with self-collection devices already on the market have shown that the performance is equivalent, so you can use it with confidence.

A validation article on HPV testing by self-sampling method using CellSoft® was published in the ASIAN PACIFIC JOURNAL OF CANCER PREVENTION, Volume 25, Issue 5.

Sexually transmitted disease test

Sexually transmitted disease tests using vaginal secretions include chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, and candidiasis. These infections often have poor initial symptoms and may progress asymptomatically. Early treatment of sexually transmitted infections is essential to prevent serious health consequences and limit the spread of infection. In particular, regular testing is recommended because sexually transmitted infections, if left untreated, can lead to infertility and other serious health problems. However, due to social taboos and the embarrassment and anxiety many people feel about undergoing medical examinations and tests, the number of people using mailed tests has been increasing in recent years.
CellSoft® is a medical device that is compatible with mailed tests, so it can be used with peace of mind.

Vaginal flora test

This test examines the balance of bacteria present in the vaginal tract. In particular, the occupancy rate of lactobacilli of the genus Lactobacillus is evaluated to confirm the health of the vaginal environment. A high percentage of lactobacilli (70-90% or more) indicates a healthy state, which maintains an acidic environment and lowers the risk of infection. Healthy vaginal flora also affects fertility. High levels of lactobacilli make it easier for sperm to reach the uterus, increasing the likelihood of fertilization. On the other hand, a low percentage of lactobacilli (less than 50%) not only increases the risk of infections such as bacterial vaginosis and candida vaginitis, but may also impede sperm migration and cause infertility.
Vaginal flora testing is important to ensure that appropriate treatment and preventive measures are taken. Maintaining healthy vaginal flora can increase your chances of conception and protect your overall reproductive health.
